For this project I want lots of props and pieces to have in the background of the shot as well as in the characters hair. I was looking for pieces in charity shops but they were all a lot more money than I wanted to spend.
Someone suggested to me to look into whether Bournemouth had a scrap store. After researching on the internet this one came up which is based in Boscombe. Looking at everything that they had on the website, it seemed a good idea to go along and have a look.
At this scrap store everything is donated from industry’s that know longer need the waste. In this case they rely on donations from business and customers using the scrap store. It cost’s £5 to become a member if you are a student, you are then given a bag which is £2 and can fill up with as much scrap as you wish. There was varied things from gift boxes, fabric to wrapping paper and tiny pieces of plastic. I was interested in the fabrics and the small pieces of plastic that I could scatter around and add into the hair.
Here is just a small sample of the kind of things they had in side, there were some things that you had to pay for separately that were worth more, which made it slightly confusing as to decipher what was free and what wasn’t. This in turn meant I didn’t take as much advantage as I could have, however next time I will know and be able to get eve more things. The place was slightly hard to find as it was amongst and tucked away behind normal housing but once found it was well worth the searching. This scrap store is a great resource and I will be using it in the future for my Major project for anything I need as well as recommending it to others, for their needs.
